Do shoppers trust you?

5 ways to earn it (and increase conversion rate).

Hey, it’s Cam from Platter 👋

Ecom has changed a lot in the last decade. Remember way back in 2014, shoppers needed to see a Norton or McAfee logo just to feel safe typing in their credit card info.

Fast-forward to today: 1 in 3 Americans shop online at least once per week. And 50% of people do more than half of their shopping online. You could argue the pendulum has swung the other way—people might even be too trusting.

But the reality is, even with online shopping being completely normal, nearly ~70% of all carts are still abandoned. And trust—or lack of it—is still one of the biggest reasons.

Here are 5 simple (but effective) ways to build trust and confidence on your Shopify store that actually impact conversion today.

1. Show real people using your product

No surprise here. Reviews are the #1 trust signal. Even a few can make a difference. 30 reviews can improve conversion by ~25%. Don’t have hundreds yet? Quality matters more than quantity. A well-placed testimonial or review can have an outsized impact if it’s in the right place. Seed nails this with customer reviews paired with authentic images, directly below the fold on their product page.

2. Trust badges that actually work

Not all badges are equal. Accepted payments, free shipping, “money-back guarantees” — these all increase conversion rate. But I challenge you to take it a step further. Booklinen does this by flexing their awards right on the collection page.

3. Show, don’t tell (ideally with video)

High-quality photos are table stakes. Video does what photos can’t, tell a real story. Andie swim does such an awesome job using video to show how their pieces fit on real people, on different body types and positions.

4. Answer peoples questions, before they ask

Unanswered questions kill conversion rate. Make shipping, returns, warranties, and FAQs easy to find and even easier to understand. Ministry of Supply uses a sticky CTA bar that links to their on-page FAQs, so customers get answers in one click.

5. Offer support or a personal shopping experience

Live chat, agents, or personal shoppers are an elite way to answer customer questions, but not every brand can staff that 24/7. A simpler option is to using a tool like Big Sur AI to automate support. Credo Beauty uses a floating “Ask us anything” bar that pairs FAQs with real-time help, so shoppers never feel stuck.
