STORY OF THE WEEK

Google is adding AI to Chrome

Google is rolling out Gemini AI to Chrome browsers in the U.S., with iOS and Android support coming soon. Beyond simple writing help and tab organization, Gemini is set to become a true browsing assistant.

Here’s what’s coming:

  • Gemini in Chome: AI is now live in Chrome for Mac/Windows, with mobile support coming soon.

  • Task assistant: soon, Gemini will be able to shop, book, and handle multi-step tasks.

  • Multi-tab view: combine info from several tabs into one summary (think: travel plans or shopping).

  • Smart recall: ask Chrome to pull up pages you visited in the past.

  • App integrations: use Calendar, YouTube, and Maps directly without leaving the browser.

  • AI Mode in omnibox: get results from Google AI straight from the address bar.

  • On-page answers: ask questions about the site you’re on and get AI summaries.

  • Scam prevention: better protection against fake alerts and shady pop-ups.

  • Cleaner notifications: Chrome will cut spammy prompts and adapt them to your habits.

  • One-click password fix: instantly reset compromised passwords on supported sites.

Google also announced a new Agent Payments Protocol (AP2), built with partners like Mastercard and PayPal, to standardize how AI agents make secure transactions online.
