Amazon wants to deliver your groceries, today
Plus BoomBoom’s CVR-boosting new store, Google’s nuclear bet, job hugging, and our NYC sauna event.

Hey it’s Cam from the Platter team. 👋
This week was stacked with big retail and tech headlines. Amazon wants to deliver your eggs in a couple of hours, Google’s going nuclear to feed AI’s energy habit, and a new buzzword “job hugging” is making its way into the headlines. Let’s get into it.

Only Amazon would risk it all to get you kombucha in under 2 hours. Even Dominic Toretto would be impressed.
STORY OF THE WEEK
Amazon expands same-day grocery delivery
Amazon is rolling out same-day delivery for meat, eggs, and produce to more than 1,000 U.S. cities, with plans to hit 2,300 locations by the end of the year. The move follows a pilot in Phoenix, Orlando, and Kansas City, where Amazon found something interesting: when customers added fresh groceries to their carts, they came back twice as often as those who didn’t.
Thousands of fresh groceries are now available for Same-Day Delivery orders in 1,000+ U.S. cities and towns, with plans to expand to 2,300+ by end of 2025. Think customers are going to love being able to add fresh produce, milk, eggs, and more to their everyday Amazon purchases

It’s easy to see the play here. Groceries are high-frequency, everyday/week purchases. If Amazon can train you to buy strawberries and avocados alongside headphones and novels, they lock you deeper into the Prime ecosystem.
The logistics are equally ambitious. Temperature-controlled fulfillment, quality checks, and insulated, recyclable bags are all part of the system to ensure your bananas don’t arrive bruised. Orders over $25 are free for Prime members (for now), while non-Prime shoppers pay $12.99 per order.
The market reaction says a lot. Instacart dropped 11%, Kroger 4%, Albertsons 2%, DoorDash 3%, and even Walmart lost 2% after the announcement. Everyone’s watching how far Amazon will push into grocery, a category they’ve been chasing for nearly two decades — from Amazon Fresh and the Whole Foods acquisition to their cashierless Go stores.
Whether this sticks as a Prime perk or turns into a premium add-on remains to be seen. But for now, Amazon is making it clear they don’t just want to sell you a book or a TV. They want to sell you tonight’s dinner.
STORE OF THE WEEK
How BoomBoom increased CVR by 27%
From viral TikToks to Shark Tank fame, BoomBoom has grown its essential oil nasal sticks into a full-blown wellness brand. But their Shopify store was dated — the design felt outdated, their back-end was making it hard to manage out of stock products, and even old packaging was still floating around.
Platter stepped in for a full redesign. Highlights included a custom Build-a-Bundle page (buy 3, save 20%), better product management with metafields, and optimized navigation across mobile and desktop. We also kept Buy with Prime intact while layering in wholesale support.
The results?
+27% conversion rate
+23% average order value
A storefront that matches the brand BoomBoom has become.
Or as the team put it: “Man, that looks so clean. I love it.”
OTHER NEWS THIS WEEK
Tapestry’s strong Q4
Coach and Kate Spade’s parent said higher duties will shave about $160M off profits this year; guidance came in a touch light and shares fell roughly 15–16%. Q4 revenue still rose about 8% and demand trends remain healthy, but the end of de minimis and broader tariffs are set to pressure margins. Read the full story.

Google bets on nuclear to power AI
Google, Kairos Power, and TVA are building an advanced nuclear reactor in Tennessee to supply 50 MW of clean energy to its data centers starting in 2030 — part of a broader push to meet AI’s massive energy demands. Read the full story.
From job hopping to job hugging
Workers are clinging to their current jobs as hiring slows and economic uncertainty rises. The quits rate has hovered around 2% — its lowest (outside early COVID) since 2016. Read the full story. Read the full story.

PARTNER SPOTLIGHT
The Bluebird Group
Breaking into retail isn’t as simple as getting on the shelf. The rules are different, margins shift, and it’s easy for a brand to lose what makes them special online.
That’s why we like Bluebird. They work with DTC-first brands to expand into places like Amazon, Walmart, and Target in a way that actually complements their ecommerce strategy instead of competing with it. Think smarter retail media, a stronger digital shelf, and data-driven decisions on where to invest.
They’ve helped plenty of digital-first brands turn DTC momentum into multi-channel growth, reaching new shoppers while keeping the brand story intact.
