3 signs it's time to rebuild your store
The struggles we hear most from fast-growing brands and how they solved them.
Hey, it’s Cam from Platter 👋
Summer’s coming to a close and brands are already prepping for Q4. As merchants are asking themselves “are we ready” for the biggest sales period of the year, there’s often one common denominator: an optimized ecommerce store.
For most fast-growing brands, there comes a point where your store begins slowing you down. And after talking with 100s of merchants, we see the same three pain points come up when it’s time for a rebuild:
Your store is difficult to update or reliant on developers.
You’re losing money from low conversion rates or average order value.
Your brand has outgrown the design of your current store.
Let’s unpack all three:
1. Difficult to update or reliant on developers
We hear this constantly from founders and ecommerce teams: “Every time I want to launch a new product, I have to go through a 3-4 day dev cycle.” Or worse, “We’re too scared to change anything because we’re scared everything will break.”

An example of the many messages we receive about the struggles of managing a Shopify store.
That was the reality for Hi Seltzers on WooCommerce. Updates broke features, plugins were a headache, and only their most technical team members dared to touch the backend. As Myra, Growth Manager at Hi Seltzers, told us: “We just didn’t feel comfortable giving the keys to anyone else. More often than not, it would break.” Rebuilding with Platter on Shopify gave them a polished, easy-to-manage store that allowed them to move faster and consolidate a messy tech stack into a clean setup their whole team could confidently run.
Every Man Jack faced a similar challenge. Their old site required lots of support from developers. After rebuilding with Platter, the team saved over $250,000 in annual developer costs.
2. Losing money from low CVR or AOV
Missing profit targets because of low conversion rate or average order value is one of the clearest signs your store is holding you back. As Cael (Growth, Brand, and Digital Product at Mugsy) put it, “We were trying to run a modern ecommerce brand on an old, outdated site. It was like trying to build a house with a crumbling foundation.”
Mugsy’s original Shopify store had been running on the same theme since 2016. Over time it became cluttered with unused apps, unoptimized media, and slow page speeds that frustrated customers. After switching to Platter, they relaunched with a storefront optimized for performance, including built-in upsell features like gift-with-purchase and a faster, easier shopping experience.
The impact was immediate. They saw a 15% increase in conversion rate year over year, a 4% lift in average order value, and over $80,000 in annual savings by eliminating developer retainers and expensive apps. As Cael put it, “With Platter, you get a better website. It’s kind of a no-brainer.”

3. Outgrown design or outdated tech
Sometimes the biggest signal it’s time to rebuild isn’t poor performance, it’s that your storefront no longer reflects your brand. We hear this a lot from merchants, “The store technically works, but it looks outdated and doesn’t match where the brand is headed.”
That was the case for BoomBoom. Their Shopify store hadn’t kept up with their rapid growth or rebrand, and the DTC channel was becoming a bigger priority. The store design felt dated, old packaging was still showing up in images, and customers had to click through to find out if products were sold out.
With Platter, BoomBoom rebuilt their Shopify store from the ground up. They added a custom bundle builder, optimized navigation, and way more flexibility for their team to manage content without devs. The results were pretty impressive: a 27% increase in conversion rate, a 23% increase in AOV, and a site that finally matched their brand.
